The Co-Op position requires availability to work on-site or in the head office from Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The role will assist in day-to-day supervised activities related to the implementation of Turner's Sustainability/ESG programs, as well as project-specific contractual sustainability requirements., and the Sustainability Co Op or Intern student will report directly to the Sustainability Coordinator or Sustainability Project Manager. The goal of the term is to provide the student with hands-on experience in construction operations, with supervised practice either on-site or in the office.As a Sustainability Co Op or Intern, you will:
- Support implementation of Turner's Sustainability/ESG programs and initiatives in accordance with local, regional, and national sustainability goals.
- Assist with submittal coordination, job-site inspections, and final documentation as required by sustainability rating systems or contractual obligations.
- Research sustainable products, technologies, and/or subcontractors aligned with project/company goals.
- Collect and organize data for corporate ESG reporting.
- Develop communications, resources, and training materials for site teams and subcontractors.
- Help organize sustainability events, lunch & learns, and committee meetings.
- Provide progress reports to supervisor and be receptive to learning about a variety of sustainability and construction management principles.
- Relate and apply knowledge acquired in the academic setting to work activities.
- Maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
- Participate in training, meetings, and orientation.
- Comply with safety protocols, follow safety expectations, and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
- Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
- Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university accredited degree program or enrolled in a Co-op program, recommended majors include but not limited to Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or other related fields of study.
- Minimum 1 year of completed education, and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must be 18 years of age, to work at a construction project site.
- Strong interest in sustainable building practices and climate action.
- Familiarity with LEED and other green building rating systems (e.g. Passive House, WELL, Envision) is an asset
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail for documentation and tracking
- Comfortable visiting active construction sites; interested in learning about construction management.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement.
- Advanced ability to embrace change; quick learner and eager to adopt new processes and technology enhancements.
- Able to work independently, with direction and supervision.
- Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills, in English language required.
- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, Internet navigation, and database applications; strong
- MS Excel skills are an asset.
- Ability to read and comprehend written information.
- Assume personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities.
- Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
- Able to take direction, apply active listening skills, learn and process information quickly, ask clarifying questions, and follow tasks through to completion.
- Some travel may be required - access to reliable transportation required.
