Job DescriptionDATA QUALITY SPECIALIST – OncologyReporting to the Program Director, the Data Quality Specialist will be responsible for the quality, collection and data review and will act as a key resource to ensure that data from patient charts effectively and efficiently get processes which ultimately will support the delivery of quality care and better patient outcomes. The Data Quality Specialist is accountable for the planning, collection, and reporting of accurate and timely data. This role will be responsible for designing, developing and executing seamless workflows from end to end (EMR, coding and finance) to support data quality and efficiency with guidance and leadership from Decision Support and Clinical Utilization.Contribute to safe, quality care by
  • Identifying oncology and ambulatory services patients for inclusion in the Program through the application of Program inclusion/exclusion criteria and protoco
  • Collecting data components for the Program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record system
  • Demonstrating applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program through Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) test
  • Identifying streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection proc
  • Demonstrating appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Progra
  • Utilizing software applications for data collection and analysi
  • Being responsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into the program’s database and meet the caseload accrual requirement protoc
  • Executing study-related administrative tasks such as collection of regulatory documents and data entry.
  • Planning, implementing and coordinating all aspects of data collection, and source documentation, in collaboration with Decision Support.

  • Supporting the development of educational resources for funding models for Oncology/Systemic Treatments, for internal and external audiences including tip sheets, and Tableaus
  • Identifying problems, reports them to senior team members, and assist in developing plans to resolve them, clinical workflow knowledge.

  • Aiding in the collection and distribution of data for external reporting to the Ministry of Health and Local Health Integration Network, Cancer Care Ontario, and Ontario Health within associated reporting timeframes.
  • Collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate, uniform reporting, data collection templates and methodology, data quality and relevant metrics and adherence to standards and guidelines.
  • Studying new and revised templates and definitions related to data collection and provides recommendations based on memos and directives from Cancer care Ontario
  • Participating in hospital working groups and committees to facilitate accurate data collection and usage as required
  • Being a team player to support initiatives of the programs and as a change agent to and in partnership with clinical and support programs.
  • Ensuring data reporting meets industry standards & methodologies and seeking continuous improvement of best practices in collaboration with other stakeholders.

  • Liaising and coordinating with programs and departments to determine benchmarks, targets and measurement of best practices
  • Reviewing and maintaining new and existing business practices, work flows and activities relating to data collection and data quality.
What must you have?
  • 1-3 year related experience working with data sets, compiling internal and external reporting. Experience in health care reporting preferred with oncology experience.
  • 1-3 year experience with health care data quality in the oncology setting or ambulatory department setting
What else do you bring?
  • Working knowledge of electronic patient portals and support is an asset.
  • demonstrated advanced ability and experience with hospital computer systems .
  • Familiarity with healthcare databases and performance requirements (CIHI, CCO, LHIN, MOHLTCH, ALR, NACRS). Experience with other databases considered an asset.
  • Exceptional communication, customer service, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively cross functionally.
  • Demonstrated experience in data quality, process improvement, ability to prioritize and manage multiple overlapping projects within required timelines
  • Ability to analysis, research and interpret data and strong attention to detail required
  • Computer knowledge and advance level in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating among diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals and objectives required. Team player with the ability to initiate and model positive change.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and how it relates to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Significant experience handling and maintaining confidential and highly sensitive material with tact and discretion
  • Computer and internet experience requires- Proficiency in MS Windows applications (Word, Excel required: Power Point and Access preferred).
