
Third Cook - Casual - Pioneer Ridge

- Responsible for preparation and cooking of regular, therapeutic and texture modified foods.
- Ensures the correct portioning and attractive presentation of foods.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of standardized recipes.
- Responsible for sanitary food handling and proper storage of foods.
- Ensures cleanliness of work areas.
- Responsible for preparing foods for Catering Service.
- Assists in requisitioning supplies.
- Participates in meetings to discuss food/menu related matters.
- Provides courteous and tactful customer service to residents, families, staff, visitors and other patrons.
- Participates in fire drills, evacuations and other safety measures.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
- Chef training or culinary management diploma or certification from a college of applied arts and technology or a private career college; and a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook; or
- Appropriate skills, knowledge and a minimum of 2 years experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality cooking to perform the duties required of the position
- Current Safe Food Handling certification approved by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit
- A genuine understanding of the needs of the frail and elderly is required
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Excellent project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- A demonstrated ability in leadership skills and supervision is an asset
- Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends and holidays
- Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
- Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies
- Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
- Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process
- Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis
- Must maintain current certification in Safe Food Handling approved by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit
