The Joint Secretariat (JS) was established in 1986 to provide a coordinated delivery mechanism for administrative and technical support for the activities of the renewable resource management committees and Inuvialuit Game Council, which were established under the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA). The Fisheries Joint Management Committee (FJMC) is focused on the sustainability of fish and marine mammal habitat and harvesting for the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR).The FJMC Resource Biologist is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the FJMC to meet its mandate on all matters related to fisheries and marine mammal policy, research, renewable resource management and conservation, regulation and enforcement. This role works directly with ISR community members, the FJMC, the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, non-government organizations and colleagues within the Joint Secretariat. While it is based in Inuvik, there is travel throughout northern Canada. - A degree in Environmental Science or other Renewable Resource management field.
- 2+ years of environmental management, conservation, or related work experience.
- Ability to work independently and without close supervision.
- Time management skills are required.
- Collaborative and cooperative mindset.
- Knowledge of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement is an asset.
