As a Kinesiologist in this program, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the successful return to work of individuals who have experienced work-related injuries or disabilities. Your expertise in movement and rehabilitation will be instrumental in helping clients regain their functional abilities and reintegrate into the workforce.Your work will include:Within the appropriate programs, the RTWSS Occupational Therapist or Kinesiologist may perform the following:
  • Reviews medical file(s);
  • Conducts interviews to obtain information regarding the client’s occupation, pre-injury employment, physical job demands, return to work options, educational history, and vocational history;
  • Performs functional assessments to determine baseline function and to identify return to work barriers;
  • Develops a treatment plan comprised of program goals program duration, return to work recommendations and anticipated outcome;
  • Adheres to standards regarding the timeliness of reports.
  • Assists clients to develop strategies to overcome barriers to returning to work and to manage injury symptoms.
Case Coordination
  • Within the appropriate programs, the RTWSS Occupational Therapist or Kinesiologist is the primary contact and communicates regularly with case managers, employers, physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists and/ kinesiologists in order to keep all team members informed of the client’s functional status, return to work status, and progress during the graduated return to work plan;
Employer Contact/Job Site Analysis
  • Contacts the employer by phone to confirm job demands, job attachment status and return to work availability;
  • Conducts job site visits to clarify job demands, relevant workplace considerations, and graduated return to work options. A report is generated to document findings;
  • Ongoing feedback during client’s return to work is obtained by phone or subsequent job site visits.
Graduated Return to Work Planning
  • Meets with each client individually to develop a specific, structured, graduated return to work plan;
  • Ensures that all parties involved (i.e. case manager, employer, physician, legal firm, client) receive a copy of the graduated return to work plan;
  • Once the graduated return to work plan is implemented, the RTWSS Occupational Therapist or Kinesiologist monitors the plan provides ongoing support to the client, and communicates with all relevant stakeholders. The RTWSS Occupational Therapist or Kinesiologist may be required to attend onsite follow up conferences with employer, client, adjudicator, if problems arise or to assess progress.
ReportsWithin the appropriate programs, the RTWSS Occupational Therapist or Kinesiologist may be required to write the following:
  • Intake and Discharge Reports
  • Gradated Return to Work Plans;
  • Job Site Visits or Job Demand Analyses;
  • Maintain a record of interventions by program noting a minimum of once weekly;
  • Responsible to complete the required documentation in a timely manner as outlined in program contracts.
Minimum Qualifications:Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics or equivalent degree. or completion of the Occupational Therapy program,Member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK); Registered or eligible for registration with COTBC.At least 1 year of experience as a Kinesiologist or Occupational Therapist within a similar responsible role and in a related type of work setting.Travel required within the Lower Mainland area.Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics or equivalent degree or Occupational Therapy Program/degree
  • For Kinesiologists - Member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK)
  • For OTs - Registered or eligible for registration with COTBC
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Kinesiologist or OT within a similar responsible role and in a related type of work setting.
  • Travel may be required to other locations in the lower mainland.
