The School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (BEDS) Architecture Program. BEDS is a Pre-Professional undergraduate Architecture degree. Students enroll in the BEDS degree in their third year of undergraduate education, entering a two-year sequence in Year 3 and 4.The Instructor will teach a second-year sequence, 3-credit course in architectural design. Prior course outlines and structures are available. The Instructor is invited to provide their disciplinary lens to the course structure, content and delivery.The section will be one of five, fifteen-student sections delivered during the term. The project scale for the project term is a community-based facility containing a long-span structure. Sites are typically in the Halifax area. The instructor is responsible for developing will develop an outline with a program and specific site. Collaborating with another section is also possible. The Instructor will develop at least two class-wide lectures on a select topic.Studio sections meet two times each week for 3.5 hours each. There will required attendance to scheduled coordination meetings prior and during the summer term.The Summer Term is an 11-week term, from May 4 to July 17.An Academic Calendar description can be found at this .
Qualifications/Requirements of PositionEducation and Experience
  • M.Arch or equivalent Master's degree
  • Prior instruction of undergraduate architecture design course, or similar prior college or university-level teaching experience.
  • Record of scholarly, creative, or other professional accomplishment in relevant field.
Professional Competencies
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations.
  • Demonstrated engagement with one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:
  • climate-responsive or environmentally-informed design
  • building systems integration and/or material performance
  • computational, analytical, or digitally enabled design workflows
  • community and social engagement
