The program has created more than $60 billion in equity since 2012, targeting companies with the potentialto transform our social, industrial, and economic landscape. Its mission is to accelerate the commercialization of science for the betterment of humankind. CDL is a global program with sites at Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax, Paris, Seattle, Wisconsin, Estonia, Berlin, Melbourne, Texas, Milan, London, San Sebastian and Doha.The program's objective-setting process enhances the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their probability of success. Each stream within each CDL site hosts a series of 4 annual objective-setting sessions that are the primary mechanisms by which the program is delivered. CDL sessions are complex, full-day events that are hosted in- person or virtually and bring together participating startups, mentors, partners and business students. At the end of each annual program cycle. CDL hosts an annual event called CDL Super Session, that brings together graduating startups as well as mentors, partners, and students from across the CDL network.Reporting to the Managing Director, CDL-Toronto and Associate Director, Operations, CDL-Toronto, the Program Manager, Event Planning and Operations will ensure a high-quality execution of CDL-Toronto programming. This includes the four annual CDL-Toronto Sessions, as well as the planning and execution of various projects.Following the CDL Standard Operating Procedures and using a variety of technical tools (Airtable, Salesforce, Google Suite, Slack), you will ensure an excellent delivery of programming via events for all CDL-Toronto stakeholders including ventures, mentors, partners, students and guests. You will also onboard key stakeholders to tech tools and create necessary communications for their participation.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the planning and execution of CDL-Toronto Sessions, including logistics, communication, onboarding and delivery. Overseeing the delivery of event management services to ensure client needs are being met
  • Resolving issues that may occur during events and escalating problems as required
  • Training others on the use of supported IT systems
  • Running queries to gather data
  • Planning and implementing workflow for a group
  • Creating and editing a standard operating procedures manual
  • Liaising with communications staff to coordinate marketing activities for events
  • Preparing financial summary reports
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years recent and related experience, with relevant experience in technology, science and events
  • Demonstrated understanding and program deployment using the following technical tools: Salesforce, Airtable, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom
  • Experience working directly with start-ups and founder teams to executeprograms
  • Experience with in-person and virtual event planning
  • Experience onboarding partners of strategic importance to the program and tech tools
  • Experience and confidence working with high performing teams and multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in handling multiple and concurrent deadlines and working in fast-paced environment
  • Well-developed interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of people in a tactful,polite, professional and diplomatic way
  • Strong team-oriented work ethic with a willingness to work independently and autonomously
  • Passion to consistently meet or exceed performance objectives
  • Demonstrated superior logistical planning, time management, problem-solving, analytical, communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional detail orientation, organization skills and ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Proven ability to monitor and uphold a high quality of work
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to change quickly
