We’re accelerating our momentum as the fastest-growing large consumer goods company in North America by putting people at the heart of our business and everything we do!As our Process Automation Engineer, you will provide key on-site support to the 24/7 manufacturing facility in assisting the troubleshooting of manufacturing process and packaging equipment on the Production Floor and develop solutions to prevent reoccurrences, by leading and executing operational improvement projects, both to maintain and increase the reliability of equipment and line performance. Reporting to the site’s Maintenance Department Lead, the role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:Position Related Duties and Key Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of the manufacturing process, support utilities and site wide equipment.
  • Build and maintain inventory of existing controls and automation hardware, identifying its capabilities, limitations and availability.
  • Build and maintain a repository of software, licenses, database, electrical, P&ID and network drawings, and manufacturing equipment programs.
  • Develop deep understanding of equipment’s control logic to be able to identify improvement opportunities, perform changes, test, and validate results, record and report changes.
  • Support Maintenance Team in the diagnoses of root causes for equipment breakdowns and drive improvements.
  • Develop relationship with OEMs to review support required for issues and lead the coordination to drive improvements.
  • Understand and develop advanced programming techniques and configurations of software/hardware from Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Scheider Electric, ABB, Omron, Cisco and others.
  • Troubleshoot industrial networks and hardware including but not limited to EtherNet/IP, Profibus, DH+, DeviceNet, ControlNet.
  • Develop, execute and update an internal training curriculum in troubleshooting programming, networking, controls and automation issues for the Maintenance team.
  • Participate and support corporate audits for automation infrastructure, cyber security assessment for shopfloor and any other related regulatory or internal audits.
  • Work with cross-departmental personnel to develop and implement continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain and improve site wide calibration plan, including legal and critical process control instrumentation, weighing scales and maintenance tools.
  • Read, understand, and comply with Company Policies, Maintenance Procedures and SDS sheets of lubricants and chemicals.
  • Support the on-site coordination of contractors and suppliers.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned/required.
Education and Additional Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or Diploma in Automation Technology, Process Control, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/electronics, Instrumentation or similar.
  • Proven 5+ year of experience in the programming, operation and troubleshooting of Industrial Control and Automation Systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, Networks) in the Food Manufacturing Industry.
  • Previous experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of manufacturing projects.
  • Capable of reading and understanding blueprints, machine drawings, electrical diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Previous experience in Dairy Processing of Pasteurized Milk and Aseptic or Low Acid Filling systems is desired.
  • Familiarity with Provincial and Federal technical standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge in Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Occupational Health and Wellness, and Environmental Footprint.
  • Experienced in the use of CMMS, preferably SAP.
  • Capable of organizing resources, establish priorities and multitask under pressure and in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with the Company’s multidisciplinary teams, OEMs, Contractors, Vendors and Third Parties.
  • Proficiency in the maintenance and troubleshooting of pumps, valves, regulators, instrumentation, motors, power transmission, VFDs, processing equipment, filling and packaging lines, HVACs, boilers, chillers, compressor, power distribution, among others.
  • Flexible to work in different schedules, weekends and holidays as required by the business and be available to take calls off-shift when required.
