- Focuses on educating and influencing current medical thinking as well as best practices in patient care in their assigned region. Leads the practices within the region to pursue excellence in client and patient care.
- Develops strong working relationships with Regional Operations Managers and veterinary teams to drive clinics to greater continuity, teamwork and best practices.
- Spends time in each practice in their region to observe medical activities and coach the medical teams both individually and in groups
- Works 1-2 days in various practices in their region supporting clinic and client needs in a veterinarian capacity
- Uses available reports, medical records, and on-site observation to review and improve the quality of diagnostic, treatment, surgical and dental skills practiced by each individual DVM to continuously improve the level of care delivered
- Supports new grad veterinarians by creating and supporting individual mentorship plans
- Supports new clinic transitions in their region along with the transitions team and the Regional Operations Manager.
- Evaluates practice medical equipment and takes needed steps to maximize usage as appropriate
- Manages veterinary board and client complaints that are medically based on notification through resolution through collaboration with the National Medical Director, Regional Operations Manager and the Practice Manager
- Collaborates with Practice Managers, Medical Directors and Associates on improved methods of time management and efficiency, including the proper and efficient use of technicians/technologists, as well as technology
- Works closely with the Talent Acquisition team in helping to attract and assess DVM candidates for their practices and represents VetCare at industry/campus events
- Works closely with the Regional Operations Managers to enhance DVM engagement through regional meetings, evaluating DVM performance, supporting development plans and defining medical goals.
- In partnership with the Regional Operations Managers, organizes and conducts regular doctor and team meetings to foster and strengthen positive clinic culture.
- Connects with and supports Medical Directors and associate veterinarians in managing their job satisfaction and healthy well-being.
- Acts as a thought partner with the National Medical Director and contributes to the development and implementation of new practice protocols and guidelines.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an accredited university
- Medical Director/Leadership experience preferred
- Multi-Unit experience preferred
- License to practice veterinary medicine in all provinces in assigned region or eligibility for such licensure
- Minimum of 5 years practical clinical experience in small animal medicine
- Strong relationship and communication skills with the ability develop a strong working relationships with Medical Directors and associate veterinarians at each practice
- Ability to support the implementation and promotion of medical programs in a collaborative environment
