- Responsible for the overall Environmental and Health and Safety program and OHSA program compliance for the company and protect the employees, customers, and the environment from potential hazards.
- Focus on safety issues specific to the industry.
- Conduct investigations into accidents to determine their root causes and develop strategies to prevent their recurrence.
- Provide employees with safety training programs to educate them on preventing health problems.
- Keep records of workplace injuries, incidents, and near misses, and implement preventive measures when necessary. Regularly report this information to the Senior Manager in charge of Human Resources and Environmental Health and Safety.
- Set and manage goals and objectives for the Environmental Health and Safety department to ensure they align with the overall vision of the Senior Manager overseeing Human Resources and Environmental Health and Safety.
- Provide training, coaching, and guidance to staff to ensure their performance meets established quality standards and create work schedules for employees based on the requirements of the department, accounting for both planned and unexpected absences.
- Keep track of employee attendance and promptly communicate any concerns to the Human Resources department.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a post-graduate diploma from a recognized university or college is required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in an Environmental Health and Safety role within a manufacturing setting is necessary
- Experience in a foundry a definite asset.
- 3+ years of experience in a management/leadership role.
- Being certified in First Aid/CPR and maintaining current credentials is mandatory.
- A strong track record of interpreting the Occupational Health and Safety Act is essential.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems is expected.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
