Atlantica is recruiting for innovative and collaborative candidates for an Electrical Estimator position. This position can be based out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia or Saint John, New Brunswick. As the Electrical Estimator, you will report directly to the Director of Projects. You will play a critical role in the pre-construction phase of our projects. You will be tasked with assessing project requirements, reviewing technical specifications, and preparing accurate cost estimates.About Us:Based in Halifax since 1966, Atlantica, a member of the Cahill Group, is one of the largest mechanical and electrical contractors in the Maritimes. Responsibilities:Reporting to the Director of Projects and working in an exciting and collaborative environment, you will:
  • Attend site visits, reviewing and critically analyzing tender documents for unclear technical or commercial items and submitting queries to the client for response, conscious of other disciplines for interfaces or interferences
  • Perform take-offs, which entails obtaining pricing from supply chain, participating in the development of project schedule and execution plans, and preparing submittal documents.
  • Develop bid preparation schedule; identifying the tasks, assignments and deadlines, for preparation of more complex bids
  • Develop takeoffs to ensure it is aligned with tracking requirements for job cost and schedule - per system, per drawing, per floor and by phase, requesting quoted prices, identifying subcontractors, estimating project expenses with the appropriate management.
  • Develop and adhere to estimate breakdown standards, compile a risk register for management review, and prepare submittal documents
  • Prepare final estimate breakdowns and analyze each section for scope, price, and completeness.
  • Participate in estimate reviews prior to submittal to the client.
  • Complete post-bid analyses and document lessons learned. Integrate lessons learned and tracking from Projects back into historical data for future reference.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with various other business functions such as Procurement, Quality Control, Planning/Scheduling, and Project Coordination.
  • Establish strong relationships with suppliers and sub-trades to ensure sound and competitive pricing is received.
Who are we looking for?Education and Experience:
  • Electrical Engineering Degree, Diploma, or Trade Certification
  • Two or more years experience in Construction Electrical Estimating
  • Knowledge of Accubid/Trimble estimating software packages
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software required
  • Experience with BlueBeam software is considered an asset
